A new outlook on life

So it wasn’t long ago I was in a toxic relationship, not the kind that comes to mind when people say they were in a toxic relationship. This one was in the workplace. I was apart of an unhealthy work environment.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved most of my colleagues. I miss working with them dearly, they made the days bearable. Unfortunately, one of my colleagues was a royal donkey. There is nothing worse than your manager being narcissistic pain in the bottom. Whilst we tried HR mediation, it doesn’t work when your manager thinks he is better than whatever session/training, it also doesn’t help if the company doesn’t really want to address the problem but instead just wants to sweep it under a rug.

I stayed longer than I should have because of my work friends. They made every day enjoyable to be there, we had a real sense of team, I really enjoyed work with them and I miss the dynamic we had. Even more so when thinking about it I have total FOMO.

Finally, I made the move to change jobs and it was the best decision I have ever made. I have never been happier. I can honestly say I love my job. I love going to work, I love being at work and more importantly it gives me motivation to get up in the morning.

On the back of this I wanted to share with you the signs it’s time to move on.
The same signs apply for personal relationships too not just business.

Move

It’s never too late to take that step to get out of a toxic relationship and the earlier you do it the more you will thank yourself for doing it and the better off you will be.

The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.

The beginning is near!

So my last post was about my new acquisition of my plot of dirt. Well today I share with you the exciting news that my dirt will so be getting some new fancy accessories.

We started build on the 27th of March.

I’ve started a project that hopefully I can stick with which is taking a photo every week to document the progress and hopefully by the end of everything I can have an adorable time lapse. It’s been a long process, lots of emails back and forth and I can only imagine a whole lot more. However  I will blog about it all because that’s the most exciting thing I really have going on at the moment. So be prepared for house updates at every stage of the build.

Other interesting news in my life, we adopted a stray kitten. Which I thought was a girl and named her Miss Fluffy Winkle however she is a he and is now named Olympus. For everyone following me on Insta you would have seen that I’ve started sewing and have been tormenting this poor cat and making him wear snazzy outfits that I whip up with my fancy Singer; which I got for Christmas but only got around to playing with in March.

So this blog post has a lot about beginnings I have begun my love affair with sewing, I’ve made many pillow cases, I have clothes for my cat and I’ve even made a bag. I want to learn more sewing, I’m hoping to learn how to sew zips and buttons. Well how to get my fancy sewing machine to do the button thing. For the time being I’m happy just sewing straight lines and unmeasured pillow cases.
Something else that is new is that I’ve purchase a Bluetooth keyboard from eBay $12 delivered from surprisingly not China, it came from Germany however its made in China but it works amazingly. I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner. I was listening to my favourite podcast Cortex and CGP Grey and Mike were discussing there step ups and I figured it was time for a Bluetooth keyboard and seriously it is life changing. Because a laptop is too much effort but an iPad is at little awkward to type on and a Bluetooth wireless keyboard is 100% the way to go.

And finally my final update and new beginning is my little indoor garden. I purchased few different plants that will hopefully survive my abuse. I love plants they make me feel so a peace, to be honest I love the outdoors however the outdoors love me too much. Mainly the mossies, they are a killer. So to make my self more at home and more relaxed I have a small little green corner to make me happy. By the time your reading this however everything is probably dead.

I know this post is all over the place at it is just pretty much an update of my life however at this stage in my life that’s pretty much where we are at. It’s been a transition to be honest. A big one.

We are Building

Hello Hello.

So I thought now was a good time to start. Nathan and I are the proud owners of DIRT out in the sticks!

We aren’t halfway however we are at the point where things seem official. However let’s summarize from the beginning.

In March Nathan and I got married and in April we decided we were ” ready ” to own our own home. We live in mMelbourne and anything we wanted we couldn’t afford, well not without selling a kidney or two. So in April we decided to build, I looked up building companies and after a lot of time spent with unrealistic offers, we decided to build with Homebuyers Center. We spoke to Kade and he found us a block and a house to suit!

We are building the Eureka 22 with some alterations. So we deposited some of our life savings on the land and house and then we waited. Of course, there was paperwork and colors that we picked out in the interim but it was all a big waiting game. No fault to anyone we just had delays to our plot of dirt titling.

December! yes 8 months later our land titled, the bank settled, Nathan and I are in crippling debt but we are now in the next stage of the waiting game. Developer Approval.

Things that I have learned during this process is, it’s all very exciting, deflating and a long waiting game all at the same time. But seriously here are some real tips

  1. Start putting away your “mortgage” long before you even have one. Save now! Save often!
  2. Compare, compare, compare. Compare builders, compare designs, compare mortgage brokers, compare everyone you need to help with this process. You would be surprised how many building companies have very similar house designs for a fraction of the price.
  3. Pinterest keeps the fun. It’s a huge waiting game and Pinterest just keeps you excited.
  4. Make a non-negotiable list. Bathrooms, room area, everything…make the list!
  5. Never ever feel rushed, this is your future home, if you don’t like the plans don’t sign them.
  6. Know your block, which direction is it facing, how many windows face the south. Things like that. Try Lassi if your in Victoria
  7. Hire a third party building expected, they are worth the money.
  8. Use all available sites and help to understand the process more. Forums are great.
  9. Talk to people, sometime if you are referred to a company by a friend they have bonus they give.
  10. Save money!

So far that were we are at. I will update soon when more happens on my plot of dirt, until thanks for reading and much love.

2017

2017 will finally be the year where I finally focus more on my little side project papertents.

Papertents started with much excitement as the new year however it soon fizzled out once I got back to work and uni and trying to fit everything in.

I’m going to be more realistic this year, last year I said I would take better photos of my work. However often it’s a rush to the finish line and I’m lucky to have made it.

So for 2017 the theme is TRY! I will try to be better and maybe Santa will take me off his naughty list.

Quit hiding your magic, the world is ready for you

Nail Care

With winter moving in for the next 3 months lets talk nail care

Trimming

The trimming length comes down to personal preference. The only thing to be careful of is not going too short. You should always leave a slight bit of the white tip, even if your preference is for short nails. There is delicate pink skin under the nail tip called the hyponychium and if it gets exposed from short cutting you will have an increased risk of infection. And the downside to long nails is they’re more prone to bending and breaking – so keeping them just a few millimetres longer than the tip of your finger is ideal for growing strong, healthy nails.

Filling & Buffing

It’s often assumed (or even just an automatic brain function) to file nails using a back and forth action, however DIY filers should file the nail in the natural direction of its growth. Aka from the edges up towards the centre in one direction, alternating sides. Filing in one direction will prevent any accidental tearing. The best nail shape for growth is ‘Squoval’to protect nails from splitting at the side walls and help them grow stronger

Similar to filing, the best way to buff your nails is again in the direction of their growth, working from the cuticle to the free edge in a vertical upward movement.

CUTICLE CARE

Remember to  apply cuticle oil frequently. Application should be before bed or when you won’t be washing it off straight away

TOUCH IN SOL Corean Complexion Cream

TOUCH IN SOL Corean Complexion Cream, I don’t know what the deal is with “Corean” its like the reverse of the Kardashians. Let ignore this. The CC cream is meant to give you that Korean beauty glow. You know that dewy, I have amazing youth skin look. I’ve actually just finished a bottle hence why I thought this would be the perfect time to review.

The packaging is so pretty however the bottle reminds me of Olay face cream and I find it actually applies like one too. The product comes out white with tiny particles in it that mixes with the cream its in to become a beige shade when you apply it. You have to blend it soon as the cream oxidizes it gets more beige.

I wear it all day, and don’t wear any liquid foundation. I find that is doesn’t separate on the skin however it does nothing to control my oil situation. I find the coverage is light to medium, but it covers up pores, smoothes out skin tone and looks so natural.

Pros:

  • SPF 30 PA++
  • Adapts to your skin tone after a few minutes
  • Neutralizes the redness of my face
  • Nice brightening effect
  • Dewy and hydrated finish

Cons:

  • Can get oily quickly
  • Very thick formula.
  • Does not have coverage
  • Comes in only one shade and we all know one shade doesn’t fit all.

Let me know your thoughts have you tired it? Would you recommend it?
