The beginning is near!

So my last post was about my new acquisition of my plot of dirt. Well today I share with you the exciting news that my dirt will so be getting some new fancy accessories.

We started build on the 27th of March.

I’ve started a project that hopefully I can stick with which is taking a photo every week to document the progress and hopefully by the end of everything I can have an adorable time lapse. It’s been a long process, lots of emails back and forth and I can only imagine a whole lot more. However  I will blog about it all because that’s the most exciting thing I really have going on at the moment. So be prepared for house updates at every stage of the build.

Other interesting news in my life, we adopted a stray kitten. Which I thought was a girl and named her Miss Fluffy Winkle however she is a he and is now named Olympus. For everyone following me on Insta you would have seen that I’ve started sewing and have been tormenting this poor cat and making him wear snazzy outfits that I whip up with my fancy Singer; which I got for Christmas but only got around to playing with in March.

So this blog post has a lot about beginnings I have begun my love affair with sewing, I’ve made many pillow cases, I have clothes for my cat and I’ve even made a bag. I want to learn more sewing, I’m hoping to learn how to sew zips and buttons. Well how to get my fancy sewing machine to do the button thing. For the time being I’m happy just sewing straight lines and unmeasured pillow cases.
Something else that is new is that I’ve purchase a Bluetooth keyboard from eBay $12 delivered from surprisingly not China, it came from Germany however its made in China but it works amazingly. I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner. I was listening to my favourite podcast Cortex and CGP Grey and Mike were discussing there step ups and I figured it was time for a Bluetooth keyboard and seriously it is life changing. Because a laptop is too much effort but an iPad is at little awkward to type on and a Bluetooth wireless keyboard is 100% the way to go.

And finally my final update and new beginning is my little indoor garden. I purchased few different plants that will hopefully survive my abuse. I love plants they make me feel so a peace, to be honest I love the outdoors however the outdoors love me too much. Mainly the mossies, they are a killer. So to make my self more at home and more relaxed I have a small little green corner to make me happy. By the time your reading this however everything is probably dead.

I know this post is all over the place at it is just pretty much an update of my life however at this stage in my life that’s pretty much where we are at. It’s been a transition to be honest. A big one.

Nail Care

With winter moving in for the next 3 months lets talk nail care

Trimming

The trimming length comes down to personal preference. The only thing to be careful of is not going too short. You should always leave a slight bit of the white tip, even if your preference is for short nails. There is delicate pink skin under the nail tip called the hyponychium and if it gets exposed from short cutting you will have an increased risk of infection. And the downside to long nails is they’re more prone to bending and breaking – so keeping them just a few millimetres longer than the tip of your finger is ideal for growing strong, healthy nails.

Filling & Buffing

It’s often assumed (or even just an automatic brain function) to file nails using a back and forth action, however DIY filers should file the nail in the natural direction of its growth. Aka from the edges up towards the centre in one direction, alternating sides. Filing in one direction will prevent any accidental tearing. The best nail shape for growth is ‘Squoval’to protect nails from splitting at the side walls and help them grow stronger

Similar to filing, the best way to buff your nails is again in the direction of their growth, working from the cuticle to the free edge in a vertical upward movement.

CUTICLE CARE

Remember to  apply cuticle oil frequently. Application should be before bed or when you won’t be washing it off straight away

TOUCH IN SOL Corean Complexion Cream

TOUCH IN SOL Corean Complexion Cream, I don’t know what the deal is with “Corean” its like the reverse of the Kardashians. Let ignore this. The CC cream is meant to give you that Korean beauty glow. You know that dewy, I have amazing youth skin look. I’ve actually just finished a bottle hence why I thought this would be the perfect time to review.

7129_xlarge_3

The packaging is so pretty however the bottle reminds me of Olay face cream and I find it actually applies like one too. The product comes out white with tiny particles in it that mixes with the cream its in to become a beige shade when you apply it. You have to blend it soon as the cream oxidizes it gets more beige.

I wear it all day, and don’t wear any liquid foundation. I find that is doesn’t separate on the skin however it does nothing to control my oil situation. I find the coverage is light to medium, but it covers up pores, smoothes out skin tone and looks so natural.

Pros:

  • SPF 30 PA++
  • Adapts to your skin tone after a few minutes
  • Neutralizes the redness of my face
  • Nice brightening effect
  • Dewy and hydrated finish

Cons:

  • Can get oily quickly
  • Very thick formula.
  • Does not have coverage
  • Comes in only one shade and we all know one shade doesn’t fit all.

Let me know your thoughts have you tired it? Would you recommend it?

My Evening skin care routine.

skincare.png

Look I don’t have flawless amazing skin, I instead have moody oily skin. I say moody because I get a pimple here there when though I’m 26. We call them adult pimples. Moving on from the bane of my existence. Skin care routine ladies and gentlemen. It can be really confusing to know what to do to get great skin, there’s a lot of different products, suggestions, advice, recommends, skin types. Finding a skin care routine that works for you can seem like a never-ending beauty quest. Also as you age you will also find your beauty routine will also change. 15 year old me didn’t wash her face. 20 year old me started getting pimples and had to get acne treatment that worked for me. Now 26 year old me is trying anti ages products because you need to start sometime. So the below is what I use, it might not work for you but its my routine for my moody oil skin.

I’m actually going to start with my evening routine because my morning routine is heap more simplified while my evening is a whole project.

Step 1: Remove makeup.

It may seem obvious, but most cleansers won’t sufficiently dissolve heavy makeup like your mascara or sun cream.

Product: Garnier – Micellar Water

Step 2: Cleanse

Rinsing with water is not enough to clean your face. Cleansing the skin removes sweat, oil, dirt and other pollutants that your skin naturally collects throughout the day and night. When your face is clean, it allows the other products you use to work better.

Product: Exposed Skincare – Facial Cleanser

Step 3:Tone

After you cleanse, toner removes any residue left behind by the cleanser as well as any makeup or oils your cleanser you missed. Toner can also help prepare your skin to absorb moisturizer and minimize the appearance of pores. Some toners may have PH balancing and antiseptic effects as well and in my case acne treatment.

Product: Exposed Skincare – Clearing Tonic

Step 4: Exfoliate

Exfoliating eliminates build up of the daily shedding of millions of skin cells daily, which otherwise would cause clogged pores, uneven skin tone, dullness, and deeper wrinkles. If you struggle with blackheads, acne or breakouts, don’t miss this step however, get a gentle exfoliant. If you have sensitive skin I don’t recommend this step daily.

Product: Dermalogica – Daily Microfoliant

Step 5: Acne Treatment

In the case of acne treatments for best results applied as close to the skin as possible to maximize the benefits. Acne treatments normal  dries up excess oil and kills bacteria in your pimples. For best results personally I allow at least five minutes before layering on the next product to ensure it doesn’t knock out the benefits.

Product: Exposed Skincare – Acne Treatment Serum

Step 6: Eye Cream

If you aren’t using eye cream START, apparently you need to start eye cream in your 20s. It’s about maintaining the health and thickness of the eyelid and under eye. Improving the skin quality in this area early on ensures that the eyelid skin does not easily lose laxity and its smooth appearance later on, it also help with dark circles and bags. Some people do this step in a different order however I believe its like the acne treatment and needs to be applied to the skin as close as possible.

Product: Olay – Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum

Step 7: Serums

Serums are super-concentrated treatments that address specific concerns for me  its just making my skin better. So again it’s better to apply it as close to the skin as possible. Some people apply multiple serums that cater to different skin concerns, but if you are doing this apply the ones with the thinnest consistency first and then build.

Product: Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate
blue bottle 0001

Step 8: Night Cream

Yes there is a different between night and day cream. Skin behaves differently when your sleeping and when you’re awake. Night creams slowly absorb into the skin overtime and are super hydrating.

Product: Garnier – Miracle Sleeping Cream

Step 9: Face Oil

I have super oil skin however strangely I find that applying oil prevents oils. I find oil’s heavy so I would apply is after everything else. Using facial oils over time can really improve the state of your skin.

Product: Sukin – Certified Organic Rose Hip Oil

Myth: You have to spend a fortune

Save your pricier item for leave-on products instead of washing them down the drain. They’re most effective when they stay concentrated on the skin. As you can see from my list of produce not everything I use will break the bank.

Hope this helps you somehow or tell me about your routine and recommendations.

Brunch Diary : Mayday Coffee and Food

On a recent “sunny” Sunday I met up with my girl Laura for brunch at Mayday Coffee on Bridge Road, Richmond. It was a fairly new cafe that I stalked down on instagram.  It’s the newest cafe from the team behind Axil Coffee, so you will see their mugs about.  I was there for the eton mess.

The cafe is very typical trendy, I’m not saying that in a bad way, I’m just saying that currently the trend in Melbourne. You know what I’m taking about artsy meets hipster meets industrial therefore you drink out of jam jars. However I digress.

The all-day menu includes a mix of sweet and savory options of course it comes with plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Their brunch game is strong brunch, they offer  14 dishes to choose from and an assortment of ‘wingman’ options. I loved the menu but I can already hear the voice of my husband saying I just want a simple eggs, toast and bacon. The menu isn’t for someone looking for predictable dishes. Things that Laura and I loved was their menu it’s amazingly designed and same with their logo.

So what did we order you might ask, we pretty much had a drink party. We ordered a mork hot chocolate, matcha latte, chai soy latte, 2 x fresh orange juices.

Food wise we ordered:

  • Pineapple bircher muesli, toasted coconut, sheep milk yoghurt mousse, lime sherbet [v].
  • S’more chocolate waffle sandwich torched house marshallow, cookie parfait & crumble, salted caramel, chocolate fudge [v]
  • and of course the eton mess from the specials menu.

Staff: The staff were really amazing and very friendly even it being a pretty busy morning.

Food: Absolutely delicious

Atmosphere: Really warm and inviting

Instagramable: as you can see from my photos plenty to Instagram about.

The verdict

I’ll definitely be back soon!

Cushion compacts

Untitled.png

What are cushion compacts?

It’s basically everything you love about BB and CC creams but better. Originally from South Korea, the make-up tool has the ability to make you look completely airbrushed, without caking up your face.By pressing the applicator onto the sponge, the cream spreads evenly out of the pores of the sponge. The cream applies natural and build-able. Usually formulated with sunscreen so you can use it for touch-ups throughout the day.

Lets talk about the sponge. In theory many of the sponges that come included with anti-bacterial and anti-microbial therefore, in theory the bacteria transfer is pretty low. You can wash your sponges with a mild soap and lukewarm water, like you would wash yout beauty blender. Generally the compacts should be airtight so they should breed bacteria. Touching on the airtight, you want to make sure that lid shuts air tight because this prevents the formula from drying out. You might be thinking I’ll just my own brush or other applicator however the applicator sponge included is designed to pick up the right amount of foundation for airbrush coverage.
